1.
The heaven of your bed is meant for rest; this is what I have been told. But you’ve left me alone here in this room, wondering why it’s so damn cold. And I still wonder… Did you realize that what you’d held in the palm of your hand was my heart? You should have known when the skin peeled back and red was all left. ‘Cause I swear it still burned for you.
2.
I spent all this time refusing to apply cover up to scars, while you had your own means in mind. And now how do I look in your eyes? Presentable? Am I adequate now? Beautiful? And then you told me to sit beneath that dead tree, with the sun beating down on me, and I was so thrilled when you came close, but it’s dark under the shade of wings. And I don’t need your placation anymore. I need you.
3.
Hear what I say, for in this space, and in our time, this holds true. It won’t be taken, not even by you, and never even chanced once by the shallow remainder. Let these tears run clear, let them run black, it matters not, it matters not. You’re still gold.
4.
Below, a voice pleaded, “Raise your gaze. Take it from around your neck. Raise your gaze, and take this blade from me.” These messages are not easily read. Still, wants & suggestions were left in the folds. You were trusted with the task of finding these, but if the cuts were too well-veiled by the shade, then let me reveal a wish: “Please, not again. Not this time.” A whim: “You deserve more than this…” And a promise: “I will wait.”
5.
This will be brief. This is the last you’ll get from me, so breathe in, though you’ll gasp. This is all I never wanted. And you wonder why I’m writing to you now. This is a letter to spell endings, and you can expect brevity and bitterness.
6.
Your first impression counted to the stirring beat of my heart as you took hold. But calloused hands don’t fell well, and if you don’t feel lonely, then you don’t feel like me… and if you don’t feel lonely, then you don’t feel me. And from above, he dropped that coarse shade in the space between us. And on my side, I took to the skin, etching a reminder in stone, never to forget what lay in the beyond.
7.
So cold... why don't you step down from that throne?
8.
I saw you going down that road. Where were you headed? I don’t want to know. I don’t need to know. Anywhere else on that road but to the dying place. Anywhere else… But you’ve been killed… and I love the dead. I thought you just wanted to disappear for a while. It would be my pleasure to help you with that if you’d only give me your neck. You’ve killed a lot in me. You’ve killed… a lot in me, and all I want is the feeling back.
